TORONTO -- The Toronto Stock Exchange joined its American counterparts in the red in late morning trading after starting the day on a positive note.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 10.21 points at 12,835.42 after about 90 minutes of trading.
The index had been up as much as much as 117 points earlier in the morning.
In New York, the main indexes increased their losses.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 152.68 points or nearly one per cent at 16,467.98.
The broader S&P 500 composite index declined 19.72 points to 1,925.78 and the Nasdaq composite lost 54.90 points to 4,515.71.
The Canadian dollar was down 0.55 of a cent at 72.38 cents US.
The April crude contract was down $1.48 at US$31.91 a barrel, April gold rose $16 to US$1,226.10 an ounce and April natural gas was at US$1.845 per mmBtu, down 1.2 of a cent.
