RCMP in the West Kootenay community of Nakusp, about 150 kilometres northwest of Nelson, say a man was arrested after a search warrant was served at a mobile home park Monday morning.

Neighbouring trailers were evacuated when officers found what appeared to be dynamite and a blasting cap.

The RCMP's explosives disposal unit reached Nakusp Monday evening, confirmed the items were explosive and removed them to a safe location where they were detonated.

Residents were allowed to return to their trailer homes in the park shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday.

An RCMP release says Johann Blattnig is charged with one count of possession of explosives and remains in custody at least until his next court date on Wednesday.
