Canadian charged with smuggling drugs into U.S. by sled

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- A 21-year-old Canadian man is facing federal drug smuggling charges that he walked more than 82 kilograms of prescription pills into the United States by pulling the load across the border into Vermont on a sled.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Cedrik Bourgault-Morin, was apprehended early Wednesday after he crossed the border from Quebec along a railroad line into North Troy.

Prosecutors say Border Patrol agents were alerted to the presence of Bourgault-Morin, who was wearing white camouflage, after he triggered a sensor.

Agents later found 300 vacuum sealed bags of Xanax pills in a duffel bag on the sled.

Xanax is an anti-anxiety medication.

Bourgault-Morin was being held Thursday in a Vermont prison.

His attorney did not return a call seeking comment.
