Son charged in death of well-known doctor from Peterborough, Ont.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- The 19-year-old son of a Peterborough, Ont., doctor has been charged after the man's death.

Peterborough police say they responded to a disturbance at a home shortly before 4 a.m.

on Monday and while en route they received another call about a second stabbing.

They say they found Dr. Andrew Chan, 50, dead and a woman in critical condition.

The woman, whose name hasn't been released, is in stable condition in hospital.

Police have charged Thomas Chan with murder and attempted murder.

They say the degree of murder will be determined by the Crown Attorney at a later date.
