Raonic and Ito will play the first rubber, followed by another singles match between Canada's Vasek Pospisil and Japan's Kei Nishikori, ranked fourth in the world. Daniel Nestor and Pospisil will team up to take on Go Soeda and Yasutaka Uchiyama in dobles Saturday.

Two singles rubbers are set for Sunday, with Raonic taking on Nishikori and Pospisil playing Ito.

"We have had a lot of success in Vancouver in the recent past and the team is excited to play in front of such an inspired and loud crowd again this weekend," Canadian captain Martin Laurendeau said. "As the draw shows, it's going to be a very tough weekend as both teams are at full strength. But we've had a great week of preparation and we're ready to get the matches started and fight for another berth in the quarterfinals."

A win over Japan would put Canada into the World Group quarterfinals for just the second time ever. Canada made it to the semifinals in 2013 before falling to Novak Djokovic-led Serbia.
