Canadian Screen Awards: CTV National News wins best national newscast

TORONTO -- The "Amazing Race Canada" is a leading winner at the Canadian Screen Awards following an industry bash celebrating the best in news, sports, lifestyle and reality TV categories.

The globe-trotting CTV show collected four wins at a gala Tuesday, including best reality series.

Meanwhile, TSN's coverage of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup won three awards including best live sports event, as did TSN's coverage of the 2015 IIHF world junior gold medal hockey game, in which analysts Ray Ferraro and Bob McKenzie tied for best sports analyst and both got a trophy.

CTV's "The Marilyn Denis Show" earned best talk series, CBC's "Still Standing" was named best factual series, and HGTV's "Income Property" won best lifestyle series.

"CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme" won best national newscast, CBC News Network's Ian Hanomansing was crowned best national news anchor and Rosemary Barton of CBC News Network's "Power & Politics" won best host or interviewer in a news or information program.

Top prizes in Canadian film and TV categories will be handed out Sunday at a televised bash in Toronto.

The bulk of the trophies are handed out in non-televised galas that continue Wednesday, with awards for some acting categories, digital projects, and children's and youth series.
