But organizers for the 88th Academy Awards say "Felix et Meira" didn't make the latest cut of nine films that will advance to the next round of voting.

A total of 80 films had been considered in the category.

"Felix et Meira" stars Martin Dubreuil and Hadas Yaron and deals with the unusual romance between a married Orthodox Jewish woman and a young man mourning his father's death in Montreal's Mile End neighbourhood.

The 88th Academy Awards will be held Feb. 28.
