Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue receives Golden Globe nod

Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue has picked up a best screenplay Golden Globe nomination for "Room."

The London, Ont.-based Dublin native won the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize and was a finalist for the Man Booker Prize and a Governor General's Literary Award for 2010's "Room.

The harrowing novel is about a young boy held captive in a shed with his mother. The child has no idea there's a world outside that shed.

The film adaptation won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it immediately began generating awards buzz.

"Room" also picked up Golden Globe nominations for best big-screen drama and best film actress in a drama for Bree Larson, who plays the child's mother.

On Wednesday, nine-year-old Vancouver native Jacob Tremblay picked up a Screen Actors Guild Awards best supporting actor nomination.
